Questions
How does the beat generator work?
Each style is written out by hand: the parts the genre has, the sounds each part can use, and the figures it plays. The first figure is the genre's basic pattern, the same one as on our drum pattern pages, and the others are variations you hear in real tracks. The generator only picks between those, so a UK garage beat always skips and an afro house beat always has the 3-3-2 percussion. Bar four gets a fill most of the time.
Is it random?
Every beat is new, but never random: the generator only uses figures that belong to the style. Pick the style again until you like one; the arrows take you back to the beats you had. To change a single step, tap it in the grid.
Can I download the beat?
Yes, as MIDI: four bars on the General MIDI drum map, with soft hits at a lower velocity and the fill in bar four. It plays on any drum kit in your DAW.
Can I use the patterns in my music?
Yes. The patterns you make here are yours. The drum sounds you hear are from RAW POWER; the free pack has 16 of them, and the full pack has all 179.
Does it work with the synth?
Yes. The beat is shared with the Seed synth: open the synth and it plays this beat under the loop it writes, and a beat you make by hand stays when you draw a new seed.
