A full song? Split it into vocals, drums, bass and instruments first with the stem separator, and get MIDI for each part.

Note detection uses Basic Pitch by Spotify (Apache License 2.0). The beat uses the drums from RAW POWER.

Put real drums on your MIDI with RAW POWER →163 tech house drum samples, the same kit as our drum machine. $29.

Questions

How do I convert audio to MIDI?

Pick what is in the recording (melody, chords or bass), drop the file in, and the notes appear in a piano roll. Play the MIDI on top of the original to check it, adjust the sensitivity and the shortest note if notes are missing or extra, and download the MIDI file.

Can it convert chords and polyphonic audio?

Yes. Choose Chords and it finds several notes at the same time, from piano, guitar, pads or a synth. Melody and Bass keep one note at a time, which gives cleaner results for vocals, leads and bass lines.

Can I hear the MIDI with drums?

Yes. Turn on Beat and a beat plays along at the tempo the converter found, starting on the first beat, so you hear straight away if the notes sit in time. The drums are from RAW POWER, the kit in our drum machine. To turn a drum loop into MIDI, open the drum machine and program it there.

Which audio works best?

One instrument or voice at a time, recorded clean: a vocal take, a synth line, a piano part, a bass stem. A full mix still gives notes, but the result is easier to use if you convert stems separately.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The file is decoded and converted in your browser. The note model is downloaded once (under 1 MB) and runs on your device.

What does it use to find the notes?

Basic Pitch, an open-source model from Spotify, released under the Apache License 2.0. The tempo comes from the method by Percival and Tzanetakis, combined with our own beat tracking.
