Tips for piano

Use Chords for piano

Chords finds several notes at the same time, so both hands come out together. Melody is for a single line, like the top voice of a lead.

Sustain pedal

With the pedal down the strings keep ringing, so notes can come out longer than you played them. Keep Remove echoes on, and shorten the notes in your DAW if the pedal blurs them.

Soft notes

Quiet notes under loud chords are the ones that go missing. Raise the sensitivity until they appear, and lower it again if extra notes show up.

Phone recordings

A phone close to the piano works. Room sound and noise add short false notes; raise Shortest note to remove them.

A full song? Split it into vocals, drums, bass and instruments first with the stem separator, and get MIDI for each part.

Note detection uses Basic Pitch by Spotify (Apache License 2.0). The beat uses the drums from RAW POWER.

Put real drums on your MIDI with RAW POWER →163 tech house drum samples, the same kit as our drum machine. $29.

Or start with the free pack: 24 sounds from all three packs, and a 25% code for the full packs a few days later.

Questions

Can it transcribe two hands at once?

Yes. Chords mode finds all the notes that sound at the same time, so the left and right hand come out together in one MIDI track.

Does it make sheet music?

It makes a MIDI file. Open it in a notation program like MuseScore to get sheet music from it.

Does it work with digital pianos and piano VSTs?

Yes, and these convert best, since they have no room noise. If you can, record MIDI straight from the instrument instead; then nothing needs converting.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The file is decoded and converted in your browser and never leaves your computer or phone.
