Serum presets folder: where Serum 1 keeps its sounds
Serum 1 keeps everything in one folder: presets, wavetables, noise samples and LFO shapes. Here is where it is on Windows and macOS, how to add presets, and what to know if you also use Serum 2.
The quickest way
Open Serum in your DAW, click the menu at the top right of the plugin and choose the option that shows the Serum presets folder. Your computer opens the folder Serum is actually using.
Where it is on Windows
C:\Users\(your name)\Documents\Xfer\Serum PresetsIf OneDrive is turned on, Documents is often moved into OneDrive. Then look in OneDrive\Documents\Xfer\Serum Presets.
Where it is on a Mac
/Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records/Serum PresetsThis is the Library at the top of your hard drive, not the one in your user folder. In Finder, press Cmd-Shift-G, paste the path and press Return.
What is inside
- Presets: the sounds, as .fxp files. Put new packs in Presets/User, each in its own folder.
- Tables: wavetables. Your own go in Tables/User.
- Noises: the samples for the noise oscillator.
- LFO Shapes: saved LFO curves.
After copying files in, rescan folders on disk from the Serum menu or restart Serum.
Serum 1 and Serum 2 presets
Serum 2 has its own presets folder and its own preset format, .SerumPreset, which Serum 1 cannot open. Serum 2 can load Serum 1 presets, so older packs keep working if you upgrade. See where Serum 2 keeps its presets.
Five free Serum 2 presets
From our VISIONS OF TOMORROW pack: an 808 bass, a distorted 303 acid bass, a French house lead, a retro pad and a trance pluck. The same download has 16 house drums and three guitar loops. Royalty-free.
